Lynwood Unified Scholars Shine at the 2025 District Spelling Bee

Nearly 28 of Lynwood Unified’s best spellers from its 12 elementary and two middle schools put their spelling skills to the test in a thrilling battle of wits and words during the annual District Spelling Bee on February 12.

Spelling champions from each elementary and middle school – ranging from grades four to eight – competed in a fierce battle as their dedicated coaches, principals, families and friends cheered them on. Four judges, including a spell master, oversaw the rounds as students confidently tackled challenging words such as “onomatopoeia” and “edamame.”

After an intense series of rounds, only three students remained, with Diego Martinez from Will Rogers Elementary School emerging victorious. He will advance to the LA County Regional Spelling Bee on March 19 to represent Lynwood Unified.

"I'm so happy I won!" the proud Cowboy said. "My mom and dad helped me practice, and now I'm ready for more competition at regionals."

This year’s Top 3 winners, who also took home trophies, are:

  • 1st place: Diego Martinez from Will Rogers Elementary School
  • 2nd place: Perla Ramon from Hosler Middle School
  • 3rd place: Juliana Almanza from Abbott Elementary School

The event highlighted Lynwood Unified’s commitment to providing students with engaging, skill-building opportunities. More than just a competition, the Spelling Bee fosters confidence, academic growth and unforgettable memories for all involved. Congratulations to all participants for their dedication and hard work!
